·1) Chania International Airport, "Ioannis Daskalogiannis" (IATA code: CHQ) is the closest airport to Kolymbari (located approximately 15 km from the city of Chania and 39 km from Kolymbari). It offers several daily flights from/to "Eleftherios Venizelos" International Airport which is located 27 km northeast of the city of Athens. All flights - both domestic and international - arrive at and depart from this airport, serving Greece's national carrier Olympic Airways as well as the Greek airlines Aegean Airlines and Athens Airways, which all fly from Athens to Chania. From April/May until October, there are also charter-flights going directly to Chania, so please check this possibility.
From Chania Airport, a taxi to the Orthodox Academy in Kolymbari costs approximately 50€. Alternatively, airport buses can transfer passengers to Chania center, from where they can get a taxi to the Academy (~35€) or take the local bus (ca. 3€). The latter, however, will bring you about 1,5 km from the Orthodox Academy, which means a walk of ca. 20-30 min. to the Academy, or a taxi (ca. 5). A link with information on the local bus services (KTEL) can be found here http://www.bus-service-crete-ktel.com/
2) Heraklion international airport (IATA code: HER) offers an alternative way to reach the Academy. Some air carriers provide direct flights to Heraklion without connecting through Athens, which may provide a more direct flight to Crete; this is also true for Chania, though (see above). Heraklion is located approximately 150 km from the city of Chania and 175 km from Kolymbari. There is a bus connection (departure every hour) between Heraklion and Chania (ca. 15€). The journey takes approximately 3 hours. From Chania bus station, you may then take either an other bus or a taxi to reach Kolymbari. A taxi from Heraklion airport to the conference centre costs about 150€. You can of course also rent a car and drive yourself.
Crete has three important ports, namely Heraklion, Rethymnon and Chania (Souda bay). Chania has daily sea connection with the port of Piraeus (10 km from Athens centre) via the ANEK LINES, but also high speed ferryboats. For schedules see http://www.anek.gr/
The bay of Souda serves as the port of Chania. Taxis from the port of Souda to the Academy cost about the same as from the airport (approximately 40 €).
